HOW TO SPEAK IN TONGUES*
An instructional greeting to you my friend who would really like to learn HOW to speak in tongues.
If you have a Bible and you can find I Corinthians 14:5 we will see at the beginning of this verse these words "I would that ye all spake with tongues," In this Epistle to the Corinthians, and now to YOU, Paul is encouraging every believer to speak in tongues.
1 Corinthians 14:5
I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Two chapters earlier in Corinthians, in chapter 12, in verse 3 we read "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
Can you say, right now "Jesus is Lord" in English?
You can.
Not so amazing but in just a few moments, I will teach you how to say, "Jesus is Lord," by the holy ghost.
That then will be amazing.
A basic truth, in learning anything, would be helpful to go over right now. Practically and spiritually speaking, a person just cannot go beyond where they are led. For most of us, when it comes to 'the how of speaking in tongues, we have not come to a place where this kind of learning can be found. This most certainly is not that place. In fact, there are two other individuals right now, with you, who want to help you to do this, and do it forever after, freely and at your will, whenever! Those individuals are, most importantly God, and me. I am confident that you will be successful, not because of my teaching skill, but because of God's infinite and abiding love for you!
Let us cover then the basics of what you will need to know about the operation of speaking in tongues.
When you speak in tongues you are exercising, or operating the gift of holy spirit, that God gave to you when you made Jesus Christ your lord. The 'gift' of holy spirit, alive within you has always been ready to speak in tongues. God has always been ready for you to do this. Now it is your turn to get ready to do this as well.
YOUR PART:
This is extremely basic now, but I believe will help you get this figured out. To speak anything, out loud, you move your vocal cords by exhaling your breath over them and then you control that vibrating air by forming your lips and tongue to make distinct words and sounds. Breath in and say, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." When you did that, you did YOUR PART.
When you speak in tongues, you have a part and God has a part. Extremely important to understand here - God is never going to possess you and make you do this, that is not how He operates, that is why I say here, it is by your will that this is going to happen, you really have known that you are responsible for your part.
GOD'S PART:
For this exercise here, consider please that God is a fountain, alive within you. Below your breath, in the very depth of your being, your heavenly Father is there and from that place will do His part. The very moment you begin to speak in tongues God begins to supply the words, only now, they will be in a different language than the one you are used to speaking in. Have you heard of the Day of Pentecost? Let us go Acts 2: 4 and we read.
Acts 2:4
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This is 'how' God does HIS PART. He gives you 'utterance.' This is God speaking forth words on your lips, from your breath and then out of your mouth.
Please remember there are TWO parts here. There is a glue called 'epoxy.' When you buy it, it comes in two separate packages. You make the glue at home by mixing equal parts from each package onto a plate or something, stirring them TOGETHER, and then you get this strong glue. In speaking tongues, you mix your part, God adds His, and you end up with perfect prayer. How many parts are there? Yes, two, that is good and now you have enough instructions on how to do this so that I will ask you to get quiet first and then get busy.
Let us pray with our understanding now.
Heavenly Father, our Heavenly Father, fill this wonderful believer with your bounty Lord, your grace and love. We come to you Father and willing now to pray in the spirit, to speak words that will magnify you and that will build us up. We claim now to speak in tongues boldly and fearlessly in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
John 20:21-22
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Take that breath now deep within, and another if you wish and continue breathing until you are at rest. Now, as you breath out, speak in tongues, begin with one single sound as GOD gives the utterance, now a complete word, and now a sentence. Do your part and just keep speaking. God is amazingly faithful in His promise to be there for you, this moment and for every other °moment of your life to follow.
Again now, as you begin to speak, God resident within you faithfully supplies the words.
Now, go back and catch your breath again please, and rest.
We are not in a hurry here and can settle down and get this really figured out.
When I say 'start again' calmly speak in tongues. When I say stop, you stop.
You my dear friend are always in control of this.
Start! Now just continue speaking here as you read along, the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog, now Stop!
Do that several times until you really get that this is your operation of the gift, you are speaking in tongues, your magnifying God.
Isn't God amazing?
Well with tears in my eyes as I type now, I just want to tell you how thankful you have made me just now that you walked out on that limb with me and trusted God to be there for you. He has always been right there and will continue to be so from now on.
How will you know that?
You my friend will speak in tongues!
